I just got a 9241 and I have an existing universal remote that I want to use to control it. Is there any way to switch the remote from UHF to IR so I can learn the code sets?

Thanks

There should be a small colored tag at the bottom of the Remote. Remove the Battery cover and you should be able to see how it pops out.

I think you will need to change from Blue to Green.

The 9242 has two remotes. Remote 1 is IR and remote 2 is UHF. Flipping the tab on remote 2 will simply turn it into a UHF remote for controlling TV1. However, the UHF remote may also emit IR signals to control the 9242. Earlier Bell UHF remotes did. Not sure about the newer ones.

If the 9242 is in single mode, both remotes control TV1. In dual mode, remote 1 controls TV1 and remote 2 controls TV2 (unless the tab is flipped.)

Yes you are correct Scary and the Remote #1, with the green tab, does not appear to be removable on mine.

When I switched the tab on Remote 2 from the blue to the black side, I found that it was only transmitting an IR signal for my 9242 in single mode.

That same type of remote, that I use for my 5100 with the black tab, works with an UHF signal.

Unlike 9242s, 9241s are single output only and (IIRC) only ship with IR remotes. Is your universal remote a "learning" remote? If not, the user manual for your universal remote should have some code for Bell/Echostar STBs.
