Trying to learn about photography (aka noob)?

I'm interested in picking up photography as a hobby, so I picked myself up a Nikon D3000 as it was recommended to me as a decent starter camera. Having absolutely no experience with photography aside from using a point and click camera, I am wondering if anybody can recommend any books or websites that cater to the novice. The few magazines and websites I've looked at all cater to photography buffs and are way over my head, and a lot of the forums seem almost antagonistic towards noobs.
