Hello Everyone,

I am new to this board. I have been on 5mg-325mg percocet for the last 6 to 8 months or so for neck and back pain. But it's getting to the point were this drug is running my life. It started with taking 30 a month then it went to 60 a month and now i cant get through the month with 60. I usually have them gone by week 3. I am finding reasons to go to the doctor to get more and i just want this to stop. The worse symtom i get is the restless leg problem. Right now i am taking between 2 and 3 pills a day. Can somebody please tell me a good slow taper plan for this without withdraws? Is there any other things to take to help me sleep when tapering off this? I havent been on them all that long so i dont know if that will help me with the withdraws or not. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Kyle, Welcome, welcome, welcome!

You came to the right place at the right time! I am so thankful to hear that you have the willingness to want to quit because that is the first step in batteling this war!

I am going to be very honest with you. Even with a taper plan, you will not get away withdrawal free. The bright side is that if you take it nice and slow it should be minimal. I had to be on pain meRAB for a medical condition and when the time came I tapered down way too quickly and I suffered miserably. You don't need to go thru that if you put a plan together and I can help you with that along with others on this board. I believe the rule of thurab is that you want to reduce your intake by 5 % EVERY WEEK OR TWO depending on how you are reacting to this wean town program. The other thing I need to be honest about it that it's just not physical pain you will feel, you will go thru depression and about a million other feelings that come out of nowhere. It's on big rollercoaster ride for about a good month.

I dont tell you these things to scare you, I telll you these things to give you the strength and the tools to better fight this disease,.

I do not know if you are a religious person or not but prayer and this board got me thru my taper. You need to take a good look in the mirror and realize you are worth this struggle. No drug, no bottle of pils should control you, obviously you feel that is occuring so it's time to take the power back., and you need to take it back with a vengence. You are worth every bit of pain you will endure, your life is a gift from God, please do not waste it.

What I want you to know is that you will find a lot of support and carfe from this board. We will be here with you thru thick and thin. When in doubt post it out.

I wish you very much success and I will keep you in my heart, my mind and in my prayers.

Remeraber, YOU CAN DO THIS! Believe in yourself! By the way, I'm Secrets, it's nice to meet you.

Hello Kyle,

Welcome :) I agree with everything Secrets said. Take it slow, keep your head up be proud that you're willing to stop taking those pills. It's not an easy task, that's for sure.

Take a look at the second thread (at the top of the main page) called "Sample Home Detox" plan. It has some great suggestions - I used it last year and swear it's a great tool to have when you start your taper.

Keep posting - let us know how it's going. There are some wonderful people on these boarRAB, with alot of knowledge.

Good luck,
emsmom

Hello Kyle - welcome to the board. I also agree with what was said above, except I'm a little more aggressive on the tapering and consider starting out with 10% a week and see how your body handles it. If you need stay at a particular dose for a while for your body to get used to it, then do so and then try going down 5%. The fast you get off of the drugs the sooner your life will get better.

Like Secrets said, you're going to experience some withdrawals eventually during the process, but most probably once you taper down further. There are no worRAB to describe the w/d's, because everyone is different and some people experience the w/d's differently. You will probably expect to get things like, goosebumps, hot and cold flashes, flu-like muscles aches and insomnia. Other symptoms are diarrhea, vomiting, shakes, restless legs, agitation, anxiety, spinning mind, and just about anything else your body can throw at you to try to keep you on the drugs.

Set a goal and go for it and let you body adjust to the lower dose, but keep heading for the Day One of being off of the drug. Once you get there we'll help you continue to stay there. That begins a new journey.

Good Luck! We all started out where you are today.
