Trying to find the name of a book.?

Trying to remember the name of some strange book I read in middle school. It was about some kid who get out of jail after being in for breaking into houses or some nonsense. He got a job as a gravedigger and at some point his mother bludgeons him with a shovel. This was if I recall because he was not aware this was his mother and he wanted to hook up with her daughter (his sister.) Any idea? Thanks.
