When i was traveling in south-east asia i read two books on life under the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia from 1975 to 1979 - one was called "Survival in the Killing Fields - Haing S. Ngor" and the other i am trying to find the title of.
It was the story of a government engineer who was forced into the countryside to work with his family. In constant fear of being discovered as a government engineer (such educated people were usually killed) he eventually escaped on foot over the border to thailand, almost starving in the process.
