trying to control my asthma

Hi-

I was having asthma attacks and shortness of breath. I still feel a bit short of breath sometimes. When I saw an asthma and allergy specialist, he said my pulmonary function tests came back better than last time which doesn't make any sense to me. He wants to do skin testing and he put me on an antibiotic but he kind of dismissed my breathing problems I thought. A friend of mine used to see this doctor and had a bad experience. I might switch to the doctor she sees, a pulmonologist. I'd like to find out why I keep on having shortness of breath and attacks.

I'd certainly recommend seeing a Pulmonologist. It is their speciality and they have a different view sometimes.

I've had bad asthma and good Pulmonary Function tests. Seems that I have to wait so long for appointments that I've never been testsed at my worst. My pulmonologist spenRAB a lot of time taking my detailed history at each visit. He uses this information to determine my treatment course of action.

If you don't already have an Asthma Action Plan in place, you should. Your Pulmonologist should do this for you.

Do you know what is causing your asthma flare? Your doc and Pulmonologist will look for that. Things my Pulmonologist and docs have looked for: any recent illnesses, allergies, sleep problems and acid reflux. I work in conjunction with my PCP, ENT/Allergist, Pulmonologist and Gastroenterologist when my asthma flares.
 
Thanks. I never thought that things like sleep problems, and GI issues would affect my asthma that much. This doctor didn't ask about that- red flag right?

I'd like to have an asthma control plan in place so I don't end up going to the ER again.

I am an asthma patient, and I have been suffering with it from the past 2 years. It has taken a toll on me emotionally as well as physically. All asthma patient suffer very badly. It is very difficult for all the asthma patient to live a normal life without any asthma attacks. Everyday is new battle with asthma for survival. But yes, with proper medication and proper care, asthma may not cured permanently, but it can be controlled.
