trying to become a diesel mechanic?

im graduating in a few days, and i need to register for my college classes soon. i am trying to find out what classes or certifications i would need to come a diesel mechanic. i want to fix diesel engines, change tires, repair air-brakes, and common problems such as these.

i dont know if i can just walk right into a job, or if i have to have a degree in something. anyone got any information on this?
