I am a somewhat compulsive overeater by nature (although the doctor thinks genetics plays a huge part in my Barrett's and GERD). When I was on Nexium, I was able to partake in almost anything I wanted, but now that my GI doc took me off Nexium (because I've been on it six years and I'm starting to suffer the long-term side effects of it, i.e., multiple gastric polyps, osteopenia) and downgraded me to an H2 blocker - Pepcid 40 mg a day (as of tomorrow, 60 mg daily) ... fortunately I have to follow a GERD diet (1000 to 1200 calories a day, roughly) or I will suffer horribly with heartburn.

I am only on my fourth day on an H2 blocker and I am having some rebound mild heartburn (mostly in the mid-afternoon because it wears off, so doc prescribe 20 mg additional at noon) ... however, I am determined (did I say I was determined?) to never have to go on a PPI again ... because that will only be my ticket to eat compulsively again.
