truth to e61 charging issues?

Hi,
I have read a few comments online about the e61 not being able to charge. I was wondering if there is any truth to these comments, and if there is a solution or preventative tactic.

I've never read the rumors you are talking about, but my e61 charges no problem, and has THE best battery life of any s60 phone I've ever used.

the problem people report has to do with when the battery runs really low. Some confusion as to which nokia chargers work and don't work also.

What firmware are u using?
 
I haven't heard of such a problem. My E61 has always charged perfectly, be it Version 1 firmware or v3. Like ollywompus mentioned, the E61 has the best battery life of the phones I've used. I was in Washington, DC last weekend and left my charger at home. Still had half charge by the time I got back.
 
I have heard of some e61's that shows full bars and then just shut off the next minute. I personally never experienced this and find that it has one of the best batteries. I can go a full day of web serving and music and come home to find it still half charged!
 
I appreciate your input too. I'm sure you all know how it is, you read 100 good reviews, and then 1 bad one and things just pop into your head ...
 
Yes, it is true... I have an E61 with the latest firmware and when fully charged it sometimes just turns itself off. I have done a hard reset... have the latest firmware....

The only think I haven't tried is a new battery but they are pricey... It has had this problem for a long time, almost since I bought it... it gets better from time to time... and then it starts... today it happened 4 times. Full battery then dead, restart, full bars, talk for 15 minutes dead, restart... dead. Then it goes on the charger, charges up and is "normal" for a few days, then all hell breaks loose again and the Battery won't hold a charge.

I'm going to try a new battery soon, I just wish I knew that it would solve the problem, it really is a mystery to me as to why this happens. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I got my E61 from pmall. $470 from mobile communications store. something like that. but I think the battery life on the E61 is excellent. even though it's my first nokia phone, i think the quality is great, battery wise. I get around 3 days battery life. which is considered pretty good still.
 
I bought mine at CellSpeed. You can find full contact info at www.cellspeed.ca. They are asking $500 Canadian but if you buy the phone they give pretty good prices on accessories such as car chargers and screen protectors.

I just bought my new (used) Nokia E61 from someone here on the forum (RNmac, great seller by the way). It had the Spanish keypad layout and was on v2.xx software version when I received it. I, too, had read a few comments about the battery life issue. I used the phone for a couple weeks while waiting on my new UK/US only keypad and T6 driver. During that time, on firmware v2.xx, I never had any problem like what you're describing. Last night, I swapped out my keypad for the UK only version, used NSS to hack my phone's product code to UK/Netherlands so that it would work with my new keypad, and then proceeded to upgrade my firmware to the newest v3.xx firmware. All went well. I still have no battery problems with the new firmware.

I will say that I've run into battery issues with several Nokia S60 phones. Typtically, they work great until the battery gets down to, say 50%, at which point the battery life starts rapidly "tumbling" (name my friends and I have given it...). We call it the "Nokia Tumble". Its pretty typical. There are also times when, after using a S60 phone constantly for a good long while, (and NOT seeing any dip in battery level), turning the phone off and then back on and the battery life now only showing only ONE bar or so. THIS SITUATION seems to be a battery VOLTAGE issue that the phone misreads. Usually, when this happens, I just continue to use the phone as if the battery was full and MOST OF THE TIME the battery life will come back up quite a bit (yes, by itself).

The phone was a little dinged up and had been used for a while, however, I got it mainly as a "project" and once I got it, it became my main phone. I paid around $225 for it. (Considering a new one would have cost me about $375, I feel that I got a fair deal). When I got it, I found that the screen was in immaculate condition, also, which was very nice surprise.
