"True" Singing Voice/Posture?

I'm just starting to sing, and although I'm no Michael Crawford, I do have some questions that maybe some of you can help me with:

1. Do people have their own unique voice? I'm having trouble finding the timbre and pitch that suits me best. I have heard that yawning is most often the easiest way to find this, but I'm still left with doubts (especially since sometimes I yawn low and sometimes I yawn high!).

2. What is the most correct posture for singing? A "how too" would be most helpful since I cannot really see what I'm doing from the side..

3. How do I minimize vocal strain? I understand this pertains to the question above however I would like it to be a main focus since I'd rather not lose my voice by the time I'm 20...

Notes: I sing all forms of music but mostly country. I can do singing impersonations from Vince Gill to Chris Young but when I try to sing it's as if my voice cannot find the correct singer!! Maybe it's that I have not yet found my "style" of singing?

I would also prefer those who've received a degree in voice only please...
