What size tank do you have? Difficult to recommend much without knowing your set up! Has it fully cycled?

I wrote a guide for stocking peaceful tanks that may help:

Remember that big fish will eat small fish, and avoid anything fish with funky common names like "shark", chances are they'll either get huge or not be peaceful, or both!

Mollies, guppies, and tetras are the basic tropical fish. Do not put goldfish with your tropicals, theyre too rowdy in my opinion. Mollies are good starter fish; they tend to live long and arent too hard to maintain. Theyre rather prone to nitrates and nitrites, so you may consider saltwater instead of freshwater. If you get mollies, make sure there arent any elaborate-finned fish, such as angels, as mollies are notorious fin chompers. Also, avoid any mullheads if you do get goldfish, as they are rather blind and tend to become malnourished. Make sure to provide some algae if you go with mollies as well.

Guppies, mollies, tetras to name a few. Don't get any bumblebee gobys. The tosser at the fish shop said they were ok with the rest but they are carnivores and terrorised my other fish.
