Hi - I'm having a problem with my 2002 Windstar transmission and I'm trying to diagnose the issue. The transmission is making a whining sound. Sounds like a power steering pump low on fluid. The sound changes with the engine RPM but not vehicle speed. I checked the fluid and it is not low and does not smell burnt. I'm going to give it a fluid and filter change hoping it makes a difference, not holding my breath though. I'm thinking it may be the pump assembly but that's just a guess. It has about 55,000 miles on it and it has the 4F50N (AX4N) transmission. Any transmission experts out there ever hear this? Any idea what a pump assembly would cost to replace if hats what it is? Thanks in advance for any replies.
