I have an 88 cherokee laredo and it has shifting trouble. The car downshifts randomly and stays in low gears. The only way I found to fix this is to pull the fuse from the shift computer and shift manually from the shifter. I have replaced the computer three times, and the same problem is still present. I have trouble believing that every computer has the same problem, and I wanted to get other's opinions, and see if this is a reoccuring problem in this year and model Jeep, and if anyone has a solution to the problem.
