One more question if I may:
What's your take on used transmissions? Some shops are offering to replace the transmission unit with a used one.
I searched through for honda civic ex transmissions and couldn't find anything about the cost... so I hope you can help?
The Problem:
If I leave the car alone to cool down for 12 hours or so, it will run fine without problems other than this scratching noise.
At this point, Whenever I go past 30 MPH (out of first gear), the RPM meeter jumps to 3000 - 5000 RPM up and down. Eventually after a few minutes, if I press on the gas pedal, the engine revs, but the car does not move.
I read a few forums and the symptoms match up to transmission problem. So I brought it into a shop and they did the code test on the Check Engine light and it said Transmission Fault.
My Question:
I am getting quotes of $1200 - $1500 from private shops to do a rebuild. $3500 from Honda dealer to replace the transmission.
1. Should I rebuild the unit or replace it with the car value being at $4500 - 5000 based on Kelly's blue book? I am not going to resell, just makes me cringe to spend that much money.
2. If I do either scenarios, is the pricing fair?
