Transmission Range Sensor on Pontiac Bonneville?

I previously posted a question about a problem with my 1997 Pontiac Bonneville SSE and I took my car to the mechanic. They hooked it up to the computer and said errors came up saying the spark plugs and spark plug wires need to be replaced. I can do that but they also said the Transmission Range Sensor is bad. They gave me a small idea of what it does but I can not find prices on it on the internet, and there is very little info I can find on Google. If you have any ideas what it would typically cost to get this part and how hard it would be to replace on my own then I would love to have your input. Also, do you think I should risk replacing it or just let the mechanic do the work? Please help me cause I only know the basics about cars and don't know anything about the more advanced stuff!!!

Thank you in advance. If you need more info just ask. :)
