Transfer Programs to New T-3

Help!
What is the best way to move programs from my Sony Clie' NX70V to my new Tungsten T3?

I don't want to install each one from scratch if it is not necessary. I have files such as Pocket Quicken & Agenmdus Pro that I want to keep current.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ken:confused:

Ken - see the PM on this. You may want to also do a search in this forum and the iQue forum for "upgrade" for more info then I sent you.

I assume the PM is personal message?

I have no PM with your information listed.

The e-mail I received had only the URL for this message.

Sorry, I am so uninformed.

Ok,
My suggestion is to make a backup of the following directory on the PC: C:\program files\palm (or sony)\SR (or User Name)\backup.

I'm not certain of the exact structure for Sony devices since it's been awhile since I had the TH55 installed. Regardless, you'll see the files that are on the handheld contained in that directory. You should see the files in PDB format and PRC format for the programs that you mentioned. Agendus Pro will list several files called Iambic and Pocket Quicken should have a couple as well.

After you've safely made a backup of this folder (you can do so by simply copying the file to your desktop) then delete the folder from it's normal "tree" and not from this backup copy.

Then install the new device's desktop application as suggested.

This will provide you with a clean copy of only the Palm programs and will avoid loading in the Sony stuff that might cause conflicts.

The you can go into the "backup" file that you created and by double clicking on each of the files you wish to restore - such as Agendus Pro and Quicken they will reload into the T3. The only problem is you may have to re-register each program so keep your registration #'s handy. Also, be certain to choose the same user name as the Sony in order for the registration numbers to work.

I'll be out all day and be back later this evening: if you'd rather email me feel [email protected]

The process is painless other than having to re-register your software. With Agendus - you'll have to provide them with a new ID for the device but they don't charge for it. You can go to their website and click on upgrade and then ask for a new ID based upon the new device and they allow 3 upgrades to each purchase.

The reason I suggest deleting the "original" backup directory is to clean out all of the old NR stuff. You can then safely add back in the needed programs one at a time from the backup directory stored on the desktop. Be certain to use the same user name as before on the Sony.

You can also delete the information from the backup file and then beam over the programs from the NR to the T3 but then you must also know which database will have to be beamed over.

If your not certain on any of this post back and I'll be around tonight and in the AM till noon.
