I am down to 2 tramadol a day now and would like a taper schedule please. I am due in 7 weeks with baby and do not want baby to have any withdrawls. Dr knows I am tapering but since he is not familiar with this med he is not sure what to suggest for tapering. He doesn[t think baby will have w/d but is not totally sure. So I want to be off of it completely before arrival. I want to avoid getting my next refill and have only about 20 left.
My dosage right now is
5:00 1/2 pill
9:00 1/2 pill
1:00 1/2 pill
6:00 1/2 pill

I was on 3 and went down to 2 1/2 pill last week. Had some anxiety/insomnia.
yesterday I started my 1/2 pill taper to 2 pills a day and I have mild w/d symptoms (MOOODY) and pain with mild anxiety/depression/insomnia. But its the 2nd day now so I am sure tonight will be more noticable.

Is it reasonable to do 1/2 pill taper every 5th day?
I know I am only on 100 mg a day and I was on 4 a day but cut back VERRRY slowly so I noticed no withdrawls but now that I am down to this many I seem to hit a wall where I have a little more withdrawls.
I want baby to be comfortable too!!!
I have heard of pregnant people taking 2-4 a day and baby had ZERO withdrawls at birth but I still don't want to risk it.

My sister was on 7 a day at birth and her baby had some mild withdrawls (fussy and low fever) but went home with her the next day.

Anyway can someone tell me if my schedule is reasonable? and if there is something I can take/do for any anxiety/depression/insomnia I get. those are the most w/d symptoms I get. I get some mild diarhea but its the anxiety that gets me the most. and insomnia.

I am wondering if it would be wise to ask dr about t3 for pain and to help w/d symptoms. What do you think of that?
My pain towarRAB the end of my pregnancy is getting increasingly worse too so thus causing me to cry!!!! I am doing heat packs etc on my lower back but sometimes its so bad I want to throw up. So I just feel like a rock and hard place. I have been on tramadol for years.

Thanks a bunch,

Maybe it will help you to know that I was prescribed tramadol when I was pregnant and was assured that it would have no adverse effect since so little passes through the placenta. I was taking four total a day and my baby didn't show any signs of withdrawal. At least not that I could tell. Try to relax. If you can't quit entirely it isn't the end of the world. In the grand scheme of things, two tramadol is way better than smoking cigarettes or not eating enough calories.

Dear Blessed:

I only read part of the post. I didn't realize that tramadol was even addictive. I took it on and off but never go any relief from it and had to go to harder things. Fortunately i am in my 40s and have had all my children. If the med will not harm your child, don't you think you should take it for your pain rather than be miserable. It isn't like you are taking 20 a day.

Having a baby is stressful event. You will not be able to take proper care of him if you are in pain or lots of anxiety from the pain. I really don't think tramadol is a bad med. my family doc would prescribe it and he wont write out anything stronger than advil. So enjoy your child and try to be pain free as possible
