trading backwards? (long post)

Good morning
I am seeking input on a trade I'm thinking about. (I have my flame suit on). I own a 2007 FLHT with 16000 miles. I bought the bike new, it is stock except for oil cooler and IED'S. The only problem I have had was a leaky inner primary seal fixed in it's 2nd year. I bought a 2002 dyna fxdx in may and have ridden it a lot more then the flht. Wife owns a 2007 heritage classic. I am thinking of trading my 2007 flht for a 2004 classic with 5600 miles, 1 owner, detachable tour pak, slip on pipes, very clean. Reason I am considering a trade is when the wife and I ride we take our own bikes, and when we take 1 bike the tour pak would be nice. Now that I bought the dyna I am impressed with the 88 inch motor (seems cooler, tighter, better made, a better platform to modify?) I don't travel highway so 6th gear is a non issue. I have rode my friends 2005 flhtc and the difference in power to mine is not a issue to me. The 2007 and the 2004 are in the same basic condition. What do you think?

I would probably keep the 07 and buy a Tour Pack/slip-ons for it. Unless I knew the history of the 04 intimately, I would vote on keeping the "bird in the hand."

Unlike many on here however that ask this type of question you seem to know the differences first hand so I doubt I could add much to help. Tough call as I will guess you will get all types of suggestions but only you have to live with it whichever way you choose.

As the owner of an '07 FLHT, depends on how long you plan to keep it. Like you, I seldom use 6th gear....unless Im on the interstate, reasonable traffic, and I can keep the engine RPM up (70 mph + I dont like the lugging)....otherwise, Im perfectly content with 5th gear and 60-65 mph. Im not a speed demon, nor do I get into the 'board scrapin'. Other than the idle situation (HD Bulletin TT410), I've had no problems...going on 11,000 miles. Im hoping to add the fairing lowers this winter, and still considering 'true duals' and SE 255 cams.

I agree with IC...I'd buy a tour pak and slip-ons. Matter of fact...I did!...lol You might consider the PC V too if you're having 'heat' issues. I probably dont ride as much as most...not as much as I'd like. It's a 'money pit' for sure....but one I do enjoy....(except on these 100 deg / 99% humidity days here in SE Texas).

Good Luck...

I would first book them out. You may be better off selling the 07 and buying what makes you happy. on the other hand, if you arent happy with the FLHT and like the classic go for it. Bikes are only worth what your willing to pay anyway..;-)) If the trade made me happy I wouldnt think twice about it. You could put tourpak on the 07 but I dont think you would be happy. It sounds like you enjoy lighter bikes and putting the tour pak on the FLHT will only make it worse. Good luck man..;-)

I just wonder why the other owner would make that trade.
And if you have 16,000 miles on a virtually stock 2007, it doesn't seem that modifications are a high priority to you. If the Tour Pack is the only reason, if it were me, I'd just put one on the FLHT. Seems less of a hassle. But if you want that, plus the radio, chrome, etc... Then I think it's a decent trade.

I don't understand the motor part of your post. Doesn't your 2007 FLHT have a 96ci motor in it? The 2004 classic has an 88ci. Why would you prefer an 88?
Besides that... I think whatever blows your skirt up is cool keeping in mind that the mileage difference between both bikes means nothing.
