Trade in/ new car help!!?

I have a 2001 Dodge Stratus RT, red, two door, leather and all that good stuff. 133,000 Miles. Whats it worth? I have about 3,000 dollars left to pay off. I want a newer, lesser miles, vehicle. Should I trade my car in? Sell it myself? What should I do?

I was offered 1,700 on a trade in....
 
$1700 on trade is a fair offer. Those cars go for $1000-1900 in average condition at auction.

You should try to sell it yourself first. If it is running well, looks good, you should be able to get $3k out of it in private sale. Even if you com up a little short, you wont have to pay much out of pocket to get it paid off. If you trade it, that shortfall is just tacked onto the next loan, putting you even deeper in debt.

Then go shopping for the next car.
