I've seen a few sites that can track by senging a text message to your phone. You have to register the phone first by sending a text message to them and some sort of online registration. They're used by fleet companies and the such in the UK quite a lot AFAIK, and CPW used to have their own version too sold in store.
is this to say that virtually anyone who has the internet, can track you via your cell phone? if i am being tracked is there anyway for me to know, or is there anyway to stop being tracked, or to block yourself from trackers?
Unfortunately the only way to remain steath is to switch off the cellphone.
When you are being tracked, it doesn't give the exact location, only the node to which you are connected to. So say in an average city there 200 towers for your provider, at any given point of time you are connected to atleast one of these towers. So, the tracking software only shows the approximate location, and not exact one. This isn't an International Spy Satellite you know?
After asking my cell rep about it he said that the info you get is the GPS location of a cell site your calling from. He said in general is doesn't help a lot but if they are tracking you and they see you moving from cell site to cell site they can 'guess' which road you might be on and your speed.
