I'm stuck on hybrid cars. I've heard that gas might get to $5 per gallon, and with all of the conflict in the middle east and already raising gas prices, I wouldn't doubt it. Right now I drive a Chevrolet Cobalt, and it gets good MPG.
But I'm wanting to look for a hybrid.

Those are the 2 main hybrids I'm looking at. I love the sonata look, and I think it would be more ideal for me. I drive 50 miles to work and 50 miles back. So that's probably 100 miles a day, therefore 500 a week, which is probably closer to 600 miles.
If gas goes up to around $5 a week, that's $100 a week on gas, and $400 a MONTH in gas...
So this is where I need help. I don't exactly know how hybrids work. One concern is their top speed. How fast could I go on the highway with them running on electric? And how many miles on gas vs. electric do you get, since you don't plug it in?
Basically, I'm lost. ANY help would be appreciated, if anyone could calculate how much I would be paying if I bought one of the above hybrid cars.
THANKS!
(And if you have other competitive hybrid cars, let me know)
