Toyota Corolla XRS vs. S trim?

I'm planning on purchasing a 2009 Toyota Corolla. I have two questions:

1) I cannot decide between the S or the XRS trim. The only differences engine-wise are the liter capacity (1.8 for the S, 2.4 for the XRS) and 26 horsepower (132 for the S, 158 for the XRS). Both vehicles have 4-cylinder engines, and leather seats are available on both trims. Does anyone else know of any advantages/disadvantages of either? I would prefer information from current owners if possible.

2) I'm also wondering if automatic or manual transmission would serve me better? Both offer identical city/highway MPG, and the only advantage I can think of is that I've heard that automatics tend to be more reliable because they don't suffer from operator errors.

Thoughts?
Oh! I almost forgot.

Also, the XRS has a 5-speed AT, and the S has a 4-speed AT.

Does this matter?

I have a 2007 Camry SE V4 which I bought in Late 2006 but i regretted it because sometimes when you're going uphill my Camry looses a lot of power and you can't have the A/C on because the car will overheat. The difference in mileage in an MANUAL Trans. is that it saves you like 1 mile in City and in Highway like 3 miles. And my Camry with the MANUAL Trans. gave me a lot of problem I finally ENDED the lease and I got a 2009 Camry SE V6 with AUTO Trans.! HOPE THIS HELPS!

And I also had a Corolla 2009 XRS with the AUTO Trans. which I bought for my wife and she likes it because of that little HP it has from all the Corolla trims. And have HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE COROLLA.
