My 1998, 4-cylinder Camry is having some issues. This morning, it started up fine, but when i started to drive it, a few things were noticeably wrong. The steering wheel felt loose, although steering seemed to be okay. I drove it down to the entrance ramp for the express way and tried to accelerate, but couldn't get any higher than 30 mph. I turned off the exit and headed off home, but in transit, something in the car caught, and it felt like it was driving much more smoothly. I'm assuming this is a transmission problem, but would like a more expert opinion.
There's also a problem with the brakes that just started this morning. At first, they felt extremely loose; I had to push them down almost to the floor to get them to engage. Then, after the car "caught" something in the engine, I barely had to push at all, and they were much tighter. As I drove home from work today and stopped off of the exit, there was a definite odor, not one I'm familiar with, that came from the car. I wasn't sure if this was the brakes, but it seemed most likely.
Any insights? If you need more information I'd be more than happy to provide it.
