It's attemtping to start, but won't fire up, the battery isn't dead, and there's petrol in the tank. Anyone with an idea as to whats wrong?

Is this the old dear that was worn out some years ago? Crikey, you've done well to keep her going, though that says a lot for Toyota too.

Your current problem could be many things, a lot of them very simple. Could be clogged fuel filter, could be worn out plugs, could be plug leads, could be "cold start" not working etc etc . . . .

I'd be inclined to get a good local mechanic to have a look at it, rather than a main dealer. It may just need a good service.

Good luck.

check the spark plugs make sure they are not burnt check fuel pressure rentatool at autozone and connect the nozzle to the pressure tester hose and make sure its reading good fuel pressure ask autozone what the pressure is suppose to be at for your vehicle... after that if all that is good check for spark remove one wire and have another try starting it as you bring the wire closer to the plug. it should spark. if it sparks check for injecter pulse with aniother rentatool at autozone. if it has pulse then check for any type of vacum line loose cracked or broken. if all the above except vacum is bad replace the computer or check security. if just pressure bad. check filter and fuel pump and regulator. if no spark check the crank sensor or computer or distributor or timing
