The Pilot is all new for 2009, the 4runner was last redesigned in 2003 and had a mid life face lift in 2006. 4Runner is a rugged body on frame platform, it can handle severe off road duty. The Honda Pilot is more space efficient, uni body vehicle, meant for on road light off-roading. The Pilot offers third row seats, the 4runner does not. Drive them both and see which one you like
