Towing capacity of 1992 Ford ranger Custom?

I have a 1992 Ford Ranger Custom 2WD . It has a 4.0l, Automatic transmission /tranny fluid cooler, and if im not mistaken heavy duty suspension due to the fact it rides higher ( no lift kit.) compared to most rangers. I just want to know what you can tow with it. The previous owner said he towed 4000 lbs but I think that may be pushing it.
