Touring Tire Issues

Heard about this problem awhile back, I really didnt see any problems untill I went out west to sturgis. On the way home I check my tire & there was some cupping. I stoped at a Dealer in Raymound Minnisota. The tech said their was not any bullitin out on the front tire for my 2009 Road king. I said at least look at it. He looked it over & agreed it was bad. He said he would replace it, but I would have to stay the night their while they worked on it. I was about 350 miles from home, so I just rode it home. I called the place where I bought the bike from & they said the samething about not getting the bullitin. He said that he would look at it & see if I needed a new tire or not. I just told him that I was getting a new tire because the one I had wasnt safe, because I could feel vibration in the frountend & that was all it took the run around was over & he set my up with a apoint to get it changed. Thanks to the forum for letting us know the facts, so we dont have to get the run around all the time. I will also take a copy of the bullitin with me & ask why we can get it & he dosnt have it.

I had the same issue with my 407F on my 09 EGC. I got the same run around from my Dealer where I bought the bike. I got results when I called HD Customer service and told them I had a front tire that was cupping and making a howling noise when I got into a corner. They gave me a number and told me to take it to my Dealer. I took the number and went to a different Dealer. I got a new 408F installed FREE! So if you have any problems, call customer service. I now have a 2010 RK with 2K miles on it. It has the 408F on the front. Guess what? I can hear some noise when laid over in a curve. Not as bad as the 407F, But I can hear it. I'm watching it very closely for cupping. Haven't seen any yet.

I had over 10000 miles on my front tire before I started to notice things. I rode across some dirt and noticed that the front tire picked up some but it didn't seem uniform. I felt the tread on the tire and noticed that it had a taper in the way the tread was wearing and I took it in and showed them the wear. They did a depth gauge on it and it had plenty of tread-don't remember what-and they replaced it no hassle!

I had the 407 and it started making a growl in the typical county roads I drive. Told the dealer during the 1k check up I did not feel safe and he said he would check it. Replaced it under warranty at no cost. Definite change for the good, no more growling, for now.
