Touring Tire Issues

Received no letter either....read about the SB on the Forum (Thank You)l....Called the dealer about the SB last week...have a 2009 Ultra with 1059 miles on it...he said bring it in...did so last Friday...all he asked me when I took it in was "did you notice any vibration?"....I did and nothing else was said....new Dunlop 408 tire installed....good to go....
Wish all situations in life would be handled as easy as this was...

I already know I am going to have to fight for mine, as I generally have to do with everything with most dealers. They pretend like the problem doesn't exist and belittle you. My family has bought 4 new Harley's in the past year including my Dad's Screaming Eagle Ultra(09 Night Train, 09 Deluxe, 09 Street Glide 10 SE Ultra). If they try to screw me on a tire with 4k miles on it, I might just loose it!

I received the tank letter (09 Rod King) but not the tire bulletin. Called to schedule tank fix and mentioned front end wobble (3700 miles). Service said they would check it out while there. When I dropped it off, I did mention the service bulletin. I left with a new tire and no questions asked.

OK, just an update. Had my appointment at the dealer Thursday morning to have the following work done; Tank recall, ABS update and check out my front tire (I had 8,023 miles on the tire). The dealer was excellent, no questions asked, looked at the front tire and said yep its gotta go. BTW a shout out to Cycle Connection of Joplin, MO. I went into the bay when I saw one of the maintenance guys screwing the bolt back in on my left side saddkebag (actually there were three maintenance guys looking at it) I spoke up and said I bet that threw you for a loop and all three looked up and said "man that is an excellent idea, no one is gonna steal those bags" I said they might pop the latch open but they aint gettin my bags. They asked me where did I come up w/that idea, I told them abot the Forum here. They also asked where I got the stuff to do the mod and I said any hardware store will have it. This is absolutely one of the best places to find out all the tips and tricks, Thanks everyone!!

...as to what we can do about the REAR tire?

Near as I've been able to determine, if you're an aggressive rider, have to deal with rough roads, or both, the rear tire cups too. "Wear item" is, as far as I'm concerned, bullshit.

You're the first one I've seen complain about the rear tire. I'm on my third with no problems. The second was short lived because of a poorly placed nail but beyond that....... The third is brand new with fewer than a couple of hundred miles on it so the jury's still out.

As for the "wear item" issue. You're welcome to your opinion but like it or not, 9 times out of 10, that's exactly what tires are, especially if you're an aggressive rider and deal with rough roads. The problem is even worse if you're one of those who's too lazy to keep an eye on your tire air pressures like you should. The issues many of us had with the 407 front tires were too common across the board to blame on the rider. That Harley and Dunlop stepped up to the plate and covered it for so many of us says volumes as far as I'm concerned. Kudos to both of them for that.

Good luck with your issues!

I payed regular attention to pressure in both my front and rear. Aired to manual specs. Front cupped and replaced a little over 8000 mi. The rear was worn out, but badly cupped on the sides at 11,000 mi. The sides of the rear looked like a gator's back and vibrated like crazy in turns.

I still have D408 front and D407 rear. I've upped the pressure 2 lbs in each and I have normal wear so far.

I had 8,500 on my front tire I went and bought a different tread pattern and the day after I paid to get mine replaced my dealer started to replace for free. I got over 20,000 on my 02 ultra, the bike still wobbles with new tire and i just replaced back tire with 13,000 i got 15,000 out of other ultra and still wobbles love the bike hate the wobble
