totalled a friends car help!?

friend told me to come over look at his car then he was like lets go for a ride im the only one with a license, so we go i drive the car with all respect soft gas and everything, he tells me to give it more gas and im in 1st gear so i do so and i loose control and hit a parked car, he was paid an amount for the car and the other car was covered now he asking for deductible or insurance will sue me. am i liable for the full deductible? this happened in california
