Total Recall remake

There is nothing inherently wrong with remakes. Individual films may suck, depending on your own personal preferences, but simply being a remake doesn't make anything bad, nor does it affect the original in any way.

If people want to pay money to see them, then they'll continue to get made, simple as that.

If they bring this back Arnold Schwarzenegger has to have the part.

I like the idea of this movie but can it beat the 1990 one? The old one is on ITV2 next Tuesday.

Have any of you read the short story it was based on? Needless to say it is VERY short. Verhoeven 'expanded' on it somewhat so a remake could go any way, really...

...unless they remake Verhoeven's film.

I watched it on Sci-Fi some months back.

Anybody know any channels showing The Running Man anytime soon? It's another classic. :D

It was on Sky Action HD last week - I've still got it in the planner on my HD box. Haven't seen it in ages - certainly never seen it in high def.

I thought I seen it about. I don't have Sky Movies though.

Which terrestrial broadcaster has the rights? I'm sure it was on ITV years ago but on Five a few years back?

Shame C4 don't have it to show it in HD. How was the quality? I watched Ghostbusters in HD and it was not bad.

Should have asked that last week.
It was 1st showing in HD on Sky Action last Friday. But I can't see it listed again yet though.

It was awesome by the way.

It looks like they have only had the rights to 1 viewing.

Edit,
Didn't notice already been mentioned. I'm waiting for Total Recall in HD.

It is Five who have the rights, I think

It's one of my favourite Arnie movies. Classic bit of SF-action, with lots of quotable Arnie cheese.

"Consider dat a divorce!"

- "Man, I got five kiRAB to feed!"

- "I thought you had six?"

- "S**t... I ain't even married!"

etc.

It's Arnie that makes all the fabulously cheesy Arnie films so good.

Remakes would fail utterly without him, or at least lose that certain something that makes them so loved...

This is great news. The Arnie one was a missed opportunity. David Cronenberg was down to write and direct originally but creative differences between him and Dino DeLaurentis scuppered it. Let's hope the remake is closer to Cronenberg's version (whatever that was - I've been looking for screenplays on the net for years and not found any). PKD's short story is a classic, and the Arnie version did have some nice PKD touches - such as the exploding false head - it's not a bad film, just slightly disappointing after the initial news of Cronenberg making a PKD film.
