Toshiba Satellite Media Keys are turned off/not working, how do I turn them on?

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and the media keys touch pad up by the power button (mute, play, pause, etc.) have suddenly turned off. It happened sometime today. Anyway, I use them frequently and would like to turn them back on but I don't know how.
Can anyone help?
