Top Shop New Style Bags

So TopShop can't replicate a bag extension without the line and still produce the extended bag look as shown in this picture? My pipes are bigger around than these TRex pipes pictured, so I could fill up the hole alot more.

The TopShop offering would practically be what HD is offering, but if TopShop could get it to us for a competitive price versus what Harley is charging, then people would be more inclined to buy TopShops bags versus Harleys. Maybe I'm missing something so go easy on me.

i going to see if we can get a few fascas! Because it looks like that peice is a bolt on part. So we can make it line up with the bag cutouts. We could do a 2-1 no cutouts and dual cutout fasca peices but fisrt we will have to order some in and make some molds

Skydoc, thanks for the comparison photos and I'm always pleased to see a fellow HDF'er pleased with their mods are you are with the HD bag extension. Personally, the seam line of the HD extensions are a deal breaker at any price, as is the side profile (scallop).

As for the remarks about 3" v. 2", I don't really care about gaining any increased storage capacity. What I want is a saddlebag bottom with cut-out with the top radius lining up with the top of bottom of the filler strip and the bottom of the bag lining up with the bottom of the SG fascia.

Hopefully, TopShop can come with them at a reasonable price. If they're $700 unpainted, I'll write the check.

We can cut the hole out to match the fasca but it will line up like the stock hd extension and it will have a bigger gap on top. I will get my hands on a 09 and do some custom jigs to make this happen without buy a fasca. Most guys put a new fender on. but you will need to be running duel cutouts with out changing the fasca.

I really have no dog in this hunt because I can get the Harley bags for $700 bucks painted with my discount from work, BUT I'd support the Indy if he could pull this off. That's how I operate.

I've liked the way TopShop has communicated with the hdforum audience even when they were posting what seems like 2 years ago. Seemed like a top shelf product back then and were willing to listen to the customer, and I see that has been retained even, like I said, what seems like 2 years later.

I personally appreciate EVERYBODY'S feedback, and like I said, maybe I'm missing something so go easy on me......LOL

I don't really care for a super extended bag look, just an aesthetic difference but still preserve functionality and drivability of my scoot.

I guess its a matter of how important it is that it all "lines up." If you look closely at the HD CVO extensions, they don't actually line up perfectly. They are a bit longer than the end of the fillers. I've always said that I thought the extensions looked ok however, and the seam really didn't bother me. I may have even bolted them on if they made a 2-1 cutout, but they don't and neither does HD with their new SG CVO extended bags...yet.
Thus the Top Shop offer of 2-3-3.5-4" bags at your request. They are simply the first company that actually has responded to the buyers request for something other than full 4.5" bags.

So a few thoughts;

-Just saw a set of Bad Dad full 4.5" bags with a custom paint job on a 2009 SG, stock rear fender and upper filler covers. Nothing lined up like being discussed and gotta say it looked killer. After reading the various opinions and thoughts on here, (and some very good points made all the way around),
I admit, I starting wondering whether I was going to go ahead and take my bags to the painter. After looking at the Bad Dad bags just an hour ago, it was a no brainer. The 3" bags look even that much better, but no there still isn't a perfect line up, but to me it still has a great look.

-If one wants the HD extended bag look or a more perfect lineup then it seems a 2" extended bag or extensions is the right look. A perfect example of that is on Bad Dads site. Go under products to 2" Bad extensions and take a look at the black SG with the red rims. It looks killer, BUT there still is no lineup to the fillers. Still this was one of the pictures I sent to Justin at Top Shop, but I went with the 3" bags still, and at this point glad I did. The 2" just don't seem to offer enough.

-Now with it all said and done, the risk of being an early adopter if you will, is that inevitably there will be tweaks and improvements made till the perfect bag is created. I'd be interested to see what Top Shop's thoughts are on these requests to further refine the design, and yes if they do tweak the design to offer the "perfect" fit, I will feel like I jumped the gun a bit Man if I could count the times I've done that! So Vtwin...what exactly are you sending Top Shop a template for now that you already have painted bags, which I think look very good BTW?

Anyway..regardless, I love the whole experimenting process of tweaking the bike and still believe these are great bags, price not withstanding, and if they can be made better, more power to Top Shop!
