Top Shop New Style Bags

Ok....had a lot more time to screw with these bags tonight and am happy to say they went on nicely.

I didn't HAVE to dremel out my pin holes but the bags were tight to install without doing it so I went ahead and took off about 1/4" of material. Grommets still fit fine and the bags drop into place like a glove.

My weird gaps were completely due to my slipons...I loosened them up, pulled them backwards about an inch and a little bit of rotation and the gap is almost perfect....it was simple once I had a little time to play with it.

So other than the pinhole issue, these bags are super nice. Strong and the carpeting is sweet along with the hidden tool storage under the shelf. I need to remove the lowering kit from my bike and figure out what I am going to do with the fender. These bags are 3.5 inch bags so they are about 1/2 inch below the SG fascia...if you are going to retain the stock fender and you want it to line up perfectly then 3" is the way to go.

This picture looks like ass because my garage is dark but you can still see how much better the gaps and pipe placement are. The pinhole thing kind of irks me as they should have let us know that when we ordered but what can you do at this point. Topshops hasn't offered to do anything and I am not going to cry about it I guess.

Hammer its looking good. Sorry for the little moding. Maybe one out of 50 bags will need a little moding. But those bags look good on that bike.

When i get time here at the shop im going to make a set of full carbon fiber saddle bags. Maybe 2-3 sets. I will be working on a custom 18'' front fender when it arives here at the shop

Last night I Started to mount the bag. I have a few extra things to do because I need to run a wire in both bags under the carpet for my lid led spoiler. The only tool you will need is a Torx T10.

1) Remove stock bags from bike

2) Remove grommets in the back of bag this is the grommet that mounts up to the frame

3) Flip bag over remove rubber bumbers at botom of bag. These sits on the saddle bag rails.

4) Take you T10 Torx and remove the screws that hold the cloth cover that holds the lid to bag (2 screws)

5) Under cloth remove two screws holding latch to bag.

6) Remove 8 screws holding the brackets that lock lids to bag.

Thats all there is to get ready to install new bags. When I'm done with the electrical. Will post the install instuctions

I got my bags earlier this week, Tuesday I think. I've waited to comment due to a very busy work schedule and also I wanted to run them over to the Dealer that I trust and that does most all of my work. Here are the comments from the service tech and mechanic at HDNT:

"Those bags look great...the finish out of them is as good as the Bad Dads and Milwaukee Baggers bags I just did, if not better."
"The carpeting and closed off compartment at the bottom of the bags is a great addition to these bags.

They didn't see any fitment issues other than some bracket adjustment possibly, but he said that was no big deal and nothing different than he has had to do with most all after market bags he has installed. I am a little concerned however that without the rubber cushions on the bottom of the bags the predrilled holes lined up perfectly, but again was told that should not be a concern and they would take care of that easily.

When I sat the bags on the on the support rail, without the rubber cushions under the bags, or the grommets removed from the stock bags, just basically set them on the bar, I was very impressed with the look of the bag at 3" and the swooping line vs the stock straight line. From the rear end, they were a hair longer than I had anticipated, but I was worried that I had gone too short and that they wouldn't make enough of a difference after I ordered the 3", plus they were setting on the support bar flush without the rubber cushions. Either way they looked VERY good on the bike and great with the stock fender IMO. The pipe cutout was just what I was looking for.

I don't think any of us can really give a complete evaluation until they are prepped, painted, and mounted, (such as VTwins), but I gotta say that my, and everyone else I've shown the bags to, early review of these bags is great. Very nice bags for the money with no rough spots on the sides, ripples, air bubbles or anything else that would create a problem for a painter. So at this point GREAT JOB TOP SHOP! You guys have been wonderful to work with so far and I sense that we can count on you, should we or whomever is painting or installing need your support. Mine are going to the painter tomorrow or Monday, and I will also offer his view of the quality of the bag comparitive to other after market bags he has painted for everyones benefit.

I am considering putting a pair of these bags on my 08 SERK. I currently have hard bags on now vs the stock leather. As my OEM rear fender is wider ( 8" vs 7 1/4" ) I am unable to install a SG rear fascia. So which lenght would look best? Anyone mount these on a Road King yet?
