Top Luggage Trunk

Can anyone recommend a good luggage trunk, similar to those on a Road King? Doesn't matter to me if it's hard leather or fiberglass, but need something to store helmet in (when I'm not riding, that is).

I've seen some advertised at J.P. Cycle, but not sure how well they would do. Also, I've got the OEM luggage rack installed. Would a top mounted trunk just mount on top of the rack?

Thanks for your help.

Sorry missed this one. Check out these trunks. I have the bottom one. Pretty cheap, but does the trick. I had to MacGuyver a bracket to attach it to the saddle bag supports. The top one on that page looks like a nice one at a great price.

Here's mine.

Thanks for the link Trapper. I had never considered a trunk for our style of bikes. Something to consider...

Do you leave yours on permanently, or just for trips?

I don't take it off, but it wouldnt take much. The reason I got it, is because I am too cheap to pay $200 + for a backrest. This gives the Mrs. peace of mind while riding two up, and it does fit a full face helmet.

I ride to/from work every day and needed a place to store my helmet. I have a Givi E52 Top Case. It's big enough to hold two helmets. Afterward, I added the Brake Light kit. I also have the Nat'l Cycle Cruiseliner Saddle Bags to hold my work stuff and rain gear.

Givi didn't have a mounting kit for the C50 so I used their Universal mounting plate on a modified MC Enterprises Mini Rack Deluxe.

Generally, I don't remove either the Top Case or the Saddle Bags - but I can. They unlock from their mounts easily - if you have the keys.

See the attached images. Note that the rack sits pretty low over the rear slope of the rear fender. This puts the case a little lower than I've seen on other bikes. While, I will admit, this somewhat spoils the looks of the cruiser, it's not too bad of a trade-off for the use.

I bought the Top Case from RideNow.com (via eBay) and the rack from MAWOnline.com. I bought the Universal Mount Plate and the Brake Light kit elsewhere.

A friend has a body shop and is currently painting the cases to match the bike. That should help the look a bit.

Looks pretty nice, Lou. Would sissy bar need to come off to mount it? Looks like it would, but I'd probably have to do that with any top luggage trunk.

Thanks for the info and good pics.

Note that Givi has a back-rest accessory for the Top-Case. Basically, it's a pad that attached to the forward (hinge) side of the Top Case. See the image (http://www.giviusa.com/givicms/uploadedimages/e52E95.jpg).

I considered mounting the TopCase (via the universal mount plate) to the luggage rack attachment on the sissy bar. However, I don't believe the luggage rack is large enough to provide a stable base for this case. It might work OK for some of the smaller cases.

Since I attached the TopCase using my own mounting scheme, and not a bike-specific mount kit from Givi (because they don't have one for the C50), I wasn't sure if my setup would be secure/strong enough to support a passenger leaning back against it under acceleration forces. Therefore, I planned to add on a proper passenger backrest later to support my passenger.

Because I mounted the TopCase using the MC Enterprises rack, which attaches to the rear fender behind the pillion pad, the case sits fairly far back and low. This might leave enough space to attach the sissy bar - but I have not yet confirmed it.

I have the VIP trunk from Ebay. One full face helmet fits just fine. $115 + shipping. I made all of the brackets and supports for it. If you'd like my write-up, just let me know.
