Pffft.

Santana's version is better by a huge margin, never got all the hype for Peter Green. He is a great player, but he wasn't doing anything that other bluesmen like Clapton weren't already doing at the time. Santana took what in it's original form was just an average blues song and made something completely different out of it.

This is a quote from one of my earlier posts,

"Now it doesn't have to be malsteem material, but I think the 100 greatest guitar songs should involve a little talent and expertise in them. And I find neither in this song"

That's your misrepresentation. That's why I said read my posts.

I have nothing against simple songs, I just think their are too many incredible guitar songs that aren't included on this list. I mean where's Satriani? Vai? Eric Johnson?

I question the only Rolling Stones song on there being one of their most anonymous songs. I mean Can't You Hear Me Knocking ? Hell i'm a Stones fanboy & I can't even remeraber the last time I bothered listening to that song. And to have it ahead of Brown Sugar , Paint It Black , Satisfaction or Honky Tonk Woman is madness.

And The Stooges song should be No Fun or TV Eye

And as for the YardbirRAB , Happenings Ten Years Time ago is much better than Over Under Sideways Down.

i was just going with the tune. i'd never actually heard the peter green version before today. so when it came up on youtube i decided to check it out. i chose that one instead.

besides, the gist of the song is still the same. santana's outro bit is even listed as a 2nd track (gypsy queen). plus santana's version is WAY overplayed. :p:

I fully agree with you. With every song they gave a brief history lesson on how the song evolved but no reasoning to why it's so high. And if they did give a reason it was always something like "It set the standard for future artists" or "It's the most recognizable riff within the genre" type stuff. I too would like to know why the songs were choosen and why so high.

What y'all think?

I think you make an important point there though, its not always what they've left out thats upsetting but that they picked something from a badns catalouge over another.

And the criteria for a "guitar song" is a little suspicious because it starts to contradict itself.

Vicarious from Tool is on there. The 100 spot is the most overlooked placement because "well they did make it 100 after all"

So what, TOOL has never been a guitar band and what about Vicarious over other tool songs, or even other songs off of 10,000 Days is more "guitar" than others?

And how does a band like Metallica, which has countless tracks with intricate guitar work OR monster riRAB; a band that has a simplistic albeit intense drummer and an album sans bass only get one song.

I'm not calling for 14 tracks from them to be put up but I think even when you talk about banRAB with better songs, they don't have better guitar. And that is what we're talking about isn't it?
