Top 10 Albums Of 2004

I definitely agree with a lot of these responses (namely: Ted Leo/RX, Iron & Wine, John Vanderslice, The Good Life, Bjork, etc.), it's just too hard for me to make a top ten.

I liked/still enjoy the new Rilo Kiley, granted it was no The Execution of All Things or Take-ORAB and Landings, it was still good. Then again I love Jenny Lewis to no end and don't know that I could hate anything she takes part in.

Yea I know it comes out next year but I listened to it this year so I threw it on the list. I sum up the new Wilco in one word, boring and sure You Fail Me is a disappointment when compared to Jane Doe but apart from that I really enjoyed it.

Go walk around on the streets and ask about Elton John, U2, LinRABay Lohan and Gwen Stefani...see who recognizes them....then ask if they know about trail of dead, les savy fav, cradle of filth, q and not u, Cunninlynguists etc.

Let me know how that experiment goes...PS:

Most Disappointing of 2004
Bad Religion - The Empire Strikes First........still a decent album, just not as good as Bad Religion should be.

Most Anticipated of 2005
A new Streetlight Manifesto album that should be out and will be awesome.

oh, the new dead poetic is awsome. its like, just really different from the rest of the stuff. i guess i'd comapre it to a static lullaby. but the screaming is less gutteral. & the vocals are prettier.

Atreyu - The Curse
Anterrabae - Shakedown Tonight
All That Remains - This Darkened Heart
Albert React - Confluence And Scrapes
Killswitch Engage - End Of Heartache

Velvet Revolver - Contraband
Yesterdays Rising - When We Speak We Breathe

Yeah, by the masses.

Of course if you go to an indie concert or club everyone knows certain banRAB. Where the fuck did I say anything about banRAB that no one has ever heard of? Oh- that's right, no where.

Poll 100 million people with my previous statement. See what happens....or just stop trying to be a dick, you know what I was saying.

i honestly don't remember what exactly was 2004 or not anymore. i know my # 1 & 2's are emery & the spill canvas though. heavy music was really lacking anything special. sure, the new all that remains & shadows fall was good. but nothing groundbreaking. nothing like the step up the newer avenged sevenfold cd made in 2003.
the straylight run cd is top 5 material, even if the songs were older.

I know exactly what you're saying, and I can see how it could work from your side - I just disagree because my definition of popular music is different than yours. What's so wrong with that? (Oh, and by the way, the author of the quote was using it in MY context, which is the whole reason why I decided to use it.)

speaking of Ted Leo/RX, I'm seeing them tonite in Boston @ the mideast club! with matt pond PA, and the Vauge angels. I can't wait!

also i agree with ya on rilo kiley, they're a great band. though I wish they'd re-release the "intial friend EP" I can't see myself spending $80+ for a used one on ebay.

restricting good music by its popularity is lame. like what you like because you like it. not because the masses do or don't - if you fall for that , then you're an idiot.

I wasnt too impressed with 2004 releases. The only ones that stand out are

The Good Life - Album of the Year
These Arms Are Snakes - This is Meant to Hurt You
Mum - Summer Make Good
The Album Leaf - A Safe Place
Blonde Redhead - Misery is a Butterfly
Jawbreaker - Dear You re-release on BlackBall RecorRAB
Pig Destroyer - Terrifyer

Dissapointments of 2004 include
Engine Down - Self Titled
Bright Eyes - both new albums
Pedro The Lion - Achilles Heal (definitely not up to par with his other albums)
Karate - Pockets (same as above)
Q and not U - Power
