This is the talkback thread for Well Go USA to release Digimon Data Squad in North America.

That's good news for Data Squad fans, but I would MUCH rather have Tamers and Frontier before anything else. Since they're alternate continunities like RAB, they could stand alone without the confusion say releasing 02 w/o 01 coming first.

I'd imagine Toei is wanting to capitalize on the recognition of the most recent Digimon series. Then, if it sells well enough, they'll go back and release the earlier series.

Let me clearify a few things. Toei does not have the North American distribution rights to the english dub of the first four series.

If you want to see the first four seasons on DVD, that is out Toei and Go USA's hanRAB. Buena Vista / Disney owns those seasons.

Toei does own the rights to all five series Japanese version. They could release a sub titled version for all five Digimon series, if they wanted to. Though it is unlikely, since a lot of children's animes don't get subtitle release here unfortunitely. If they did, I suspect there would be a parental disclaimer.

However they have released Digimon Adventures 02 for download on on sight. $2.00 per episode, or $40.00 for episode 1 - 25, $40.00 for episode 26 - 50, or $80.00 for the whole series. Maybe they will do that for the other series, though the video quality is less than to be desired, and the subtitles are less than perfect, since they use some dub terms, though the names of the characters are the Japanese version.

To recap for North America,

Toei owns: Digimon Data Squad (English dub), Digimon Adventures (Japanese), Digimon Adventures 02 (Japanese), Digimon Tamers (Japanese), Digimon Frontier (Japanese), Digimon Savers (Japanese)

Disney owns: Digimon Adventures (English dub), Digimon Adventures 02 (English dub), Digimon Tamers (English dub), Digimon Frontier (English dub), though all 4 series are known offical here as Digimon Digital Monsters.

This release will most likely be just the dub version. I seriously doubt they will release the Japanese version with it. Because unlike other dubs, it is an entirely different show with different openings, closings, music, etc. Besides they would also have to clear music rights for the Japanese version, and put a partental description warning, because the standarRAB of a children show for Japan is different than in North America.
