This is the talkback thread for "Welcome to the NHK: The Complete Series": Welcome to a Great TV Show.

I've only seen one episode of this. If and when FUNi decides to upload English episodes to their website (as I believe they currently only have episodes 1 & 2 subbed), I may continue. But based on the first episode, I doubt I'd want this in my DVD collection. I don't think it would have any replay value for me at all.

Well, I can honestly say you'd be making a mistake Speedy because this review is perfectly correct. NHK is a very amusing show. Not groundbreaking but its a show that will stay in the back of your memory. The characters are surprisingly real and even the delusions seen are kind of interesting once you see things from Sato's perspective. I watched it twice in any case and was pleased each time.

Besides, that ending song kicks ass.

I barely rewatch most of the anime on my shelf as it is (heck, even Excel Saga, a favorite of mine, I don't think I've watched for a couple years now!), and since the first episode I watched wasn't exactly the most, erm, uplifting experience, that doesn't exactly work in its favor. But, I could be wrong. Like I said, I'm up for viewing more legally online.

If you ever get around to watching more you will find out it's a surprisingly uplifting experience. This is one of those series that shouldn't be judged by it's first handful of episodes because the tone changes so much by it's end. It starts out
a bit depressing and sad(for Sato at least), but it gets better
And the last couple of episodes in this series are probably some of my favorite episodes of any series.

I'd actually say that some of the shows later episodes do have some replay value, especially since every little "arc" is sort of like it's own mini-series, where you don't really need to watch everything that came before to understand what's going on. The first two episodes were (not unusually) not real indicators of how good the show would get later on.

Yeah, I would reccomend waiting until FUNI puts it up, though. When I say things like "Completely Worth $45 Dollars!", I tend to forget that there are ways to get this stuff for free.

Man, what was with that?

Great review. I love this show. I've actually only seen about the first half or a little more, so I'll be getting this set soon. I actually this Chris Patton and Greg Ayres both did really great.

I loved this show. Lots of humor, with a little drama sprinkled in. I really recommend this one, I'm all about Shonen super heroes and comedies, and I normally hate "slice of life" shows. But this one is just that good. I recommend it to almost anybody.

By the way, did anybody else find themselves relating to the main character a little more than they'd like to admit?

That's the beauty of his character, even though you don't realize it, at some point something happens in his life that most people can relate to.

But in a more literal sense I get what you mean, and I think that's why it mostly gets overlooked; it hits way to close to home for some to handle, even though it has a positive conclusion.

Awesome! I'll be sure to get the box set eventually. This shows rules. Misaki's voice felt so familiar when I originally saw this series(I'm talking about the English version).
