Toon Zone Talkback - "Magikano" Complete Series: Wicked Witch of the Dumb

Wow, it has almost every cliche in the book and what sounRAB like an absolutely horrible dub. Gotta [strike]love[/strike] hate the horde of one-note characters too. It definitely should have been allowed to go away.

Gotta admit, that is a nice splash.

Ah another walking cliche of a harem show. Although I must say...

Is it just me or does the main protagonist's body not look right. It looks like a flesh-coloured shirt instead of like you know... what an actual male upper body looks like. But then again, given his lack of any dynamic, defining traits (the lack of reaction in his face to attempted fanservice [maybe he was perturbed by the poor presentation of it]), and the glasses that define him as a pseudo-Keitaro.

And if he is, I'm pretty sure that there was a moment in the show where the girls decked him for being inadvertently pervy and he flew through the stratosphere.

The reason he's not responding to the nurse outfit is that one of the running "gags" of the show (if you want to call it that) is that Haruo doesn't get hot and bothered by Mamiya like she wants him to. One episode is centered around that, in fact: She wears a pair of talking panties which can't be removed unless a guy pulls them off in lust. But since it's hard to get Haruo to lust after her, this is a daunting task.

...Did I mention this show is stupid?

I actually liked the show.

Yeah, there, all alone defending a show again.

I'm serious, I enjoyed it, there were some funny stuff, and while some characters felt...stereotypical, I couldn't help but laugh, really.

We've got nothing on the sadly moribund Anime Jump. When they gave a smack down they did it with a ten ton hammer. It helps that they can curse though.

More on point, yay stupid otaku bait. Way to make the fans look good.

Well, to make this conversation go anywhere ("I found it funny" "Well I didn't! Nyah!"), which specific parts did you find funny? And a side question, did you watch this with the dub? Because damn, I like ADV but after watching this dub, I can completely see where the haters are coming from in regarRAB to their dubs. It was just... loud. Though I should admit I did find Hillary Haag as the youngest sister cute at times.

How....How does she go to the restroom then?
(She must have an incredibly large Bladder!)

To be honest, it's been a while since I've seen it (about a year or so), but I do remeraber some episodes that were funny, such as the Summer Festival episode (episode 8), which was wacky-as-hell episode, and I actually found episode 9 (of course, the cat panties one) funny mostly because, how is having an angument with your own underwear not funny?

And unlike many other harem series, it's actually pretty funny to see the main male character get owned (thanks to the "memory hammer", which deletes his memories if he sees them do magic)

You also mentioned that it was loud, correct? I think it was meant to be like that.

Beating up the male lead in a harem anime is a trope that goes back to Ranma 1/2, was run into the ground in Love Hina and taken to it's grotesque extreme in Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan. It's nothing special at this point, and Magikano doesn't do it all that well.

Actually it's "Released by the Pirates," meaning the Pittsburgh Pirates, the horribly-owned MLB team that's even worse than the Orioles.

BTW, for those interested, all of the phrases in the splash:

"DUrab"
"Stupid Stupid Stupid"
"Oddly STILL better than the Happy Days cartoon"
"Released by the Pirates"
"Irritating"
"Annoying"
"Unsexy"
"As seen in Saw XX" (are we that far yet?)
"Idiotic"
"Why, FUNi, Why!?"
"Freddy Kruger's Trump Card"
"Traded for Zach Randolph"
"I'd rather watch soccer!"
"Duraber than Homer"
"Al Davis' favorite show"
"What the #$@% is this @&%?!"
"Picked up by G4"
"Gigli Bad"
"Drafted by Matt Millen"
"One reason why ADV folded"
"Happy Lesson was better!"

Very elegant Duke, though "Released by the Natinals" probably would have been more topical.

Aside to Karl, I actually found Dokuro-chan oddly amusing in its total absurdity.

The Pirates got the nod because they've been sucking more than any other pro team out there except the Lions and any time they get a decent player, they trade him away for more cheap prospects and the traded player becomes an All-Star on a winning team (hence why I said "released" since it's too sucky to trade away). The Natinals suck, sure, but they're at least attempting to get better.
