I wanted to review this series, but Ed's rock beat my scissors. I still need something to flush the memories of Glass Fleet from my mind, and was hoping this would be it ...
 
Fantastic review. It managed to channel really most my feelings and opinions toward the anime.

I first saw Chevalier at a small anime convention and was fiercely intrigued by it. I could have easily accepted it as a good period drama during the first 3/4ths of the first episode, but the supernatural stuff won me over. It wasn't until last Deceraber through early March that I finally decided to buy ADV's release of the show, and was left impressed. Yes, the supernatural stuff can get rather unwieldy, yes the plot is heavily labyrinthine in scope, and it seems rather slow. But it is an incredibly well-crafted and ultimately underrated (imho) show in which its deficiencies is overshadowed by the depth of its production values, story, and characters.

Also, it truly is a damn shame that ADV lost this anime, the individual releases were some of the best I've seen in a long time and ADV I believe really put a lot of effort into it.

So yeah, go watch Le Chevalier d'Eon.
