Toon Zone Talkback - HBO Ends "Life & Times of Tim"

This is the talkback thread for HBO Ends "Life & Times of Tim".

Bad news for Tim fans, but there is hope that the show might continue on another cable network. However, I don't blame HBO for canceling it. It had really low ratings and even I wondered if HBO would keep it around. Its amazing that the Ricky Gervais Show got picked up for another season since its ratings weren't that far off. Must have been really cheap to produce.

I'm pretty surprised. Even if it did get subpar ratings, it was a pretty cheap show to produce. I suppose filling a time slot with something that may perform better was more important to HBO in this situation.

Comon Adult Swim.

Didn't the second season end on the sort of cliffhanger of Tim getting fired? I hope Adult Swim does pick up the show. There's already 20 produced episodes, and AS could easily transform them into 40 episodes since they're only 12 minute segments.

As for 'repackaging' the current episodes, they only need to add a few bleeps here and there, and censor the nudity from the episode where Tim visits the strip club. Outside of a few time edits, it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

I think the snag MRC is facing is the fact that they're trying to guarantee a third season in addition to letting whatever cable network picks up the current 20 episodes. The cable network has to commit to it, even though they won't know if Tim will do well for them.

I think The Ricky Gervais Show has two things going for it:

1. Gervais is highly popular on both sides of the Atlantic

2. The Audio is repurposed from existing material, all they need to do is add the (presumbably) Flash animation.

The show seems to be doing quite well here on Channel 4, to the seeming point they've started airing two episodes each Friday. HBO and Channel 4 seem to have a good working relationship, so that likely played a part. Maybe Channel 4 offered funding for more episodes?

I can't imagine 'Tim' is an outrageously expensive series to aquire. I mean, CC's picked up the likes of 'Sit Down, Shut Up' and 'The Goode Family', which I'd think were more expensive than 'Tim'.

Unless they're asking for an outrageous amount for both the already produced episodes plus the possible 3rd season, I can't imagine CC or Adult Swim passing on the show.

As another poster pointed out, if Adult Swim picked up the series, they'd be able to split the 11 minute segments up and get 40 existing episodes out of the series.

Tim actually got higher ratings than the Gervais show, only by a slight amount, but I'm pretty saddened to hear HBO bagged out on it.
