LOS ANGELES ? The FX channel is going to be the TV destination for "Monsters vs. Aliens," "Kung Fu Panda" and other DreamWorks animated movies.

FX struck a licensing agreement with DreamWorks Animation SKG distributor Paramount Pictures that gives the cable channel the TV rights to releases from 2008 to 2012.

Also included in the deal are "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa," "Shrek Goes Fourth" and the sequel to "Kung Fu Panda."

"Monsters vs. Aliens" scored the highest-grossing weekend for the year to date, taking in more than $59 million.

Paramount Pictures Corp. is a unit of Viacom. FX is owned by News Corp.
 
I remember after Shrek came out that Cartoon Network had the big deal on getting the DreamWorks animated films, and yet so few have aired on the network. In fact, the cable premiere of Madagascar will be on TBS rather than Cartoon Network.

Sorry to be off-topic, but FX has the better deal here than Cartoon Network, as well as including films that expand its age range beyond just the 18 to 35 demographic. While the DreamWorks films have an appeal to adults, they nevertheless have an equally strong association with children. I had thought including animated films for kids, such as Ice Age, was moving FX into a direction other than its key demographic, but I see the network is trying to expand some of its market.
 
I think those are the only ones.

I always thought Viacom should create a "Paramount Movies" channel for things like this, but I guess they can make more money this way.
