This is the talkback thread for FUNimation Announces New Deceraber Titles Including "Samurai Champloo" Blu-ray.

I'm glad I didn't get that DVD re-release of Champloo, since this Blu-ray was announced.

(as I said in the news item, this is likely a very preliminary listing of FUNi's Deceraber titles. After all, they only recently announced Noveraber's titles)

I don't have a Blu-ray player yet, and I have all of Samurai Champloo on DVD, so the only thing on this list I'll be getting is Blassreiter. Two months after the first half? I guess that means the second half of Tower of Druaga will be out the following month. And it's still only August! These Blassreiter sets don't even start coming out until October! Since Noveraber titles were just announced, and since this is so few, there will definitely be many more. It's too bad Right Stuf's FUNimation sale's last day was yesterday.

Why couldn't Samurai Champloo couldn't had been released on both DVD and on Blu-Ray on the same day Funi? That we will never know. With the Blu-
Ray release pobably going to be more expensive than the Complete Series DVD set, I'll stick to the standard definiton version of the series please.

You'd be surprised...it'll only be $10 more expensive on Blu-Ray for the MSRP price. Depending on the circumstances of sales, it could be cheaper.

A similar situation happened for Tsubasa. If this is a sign of things to come for high-def anime, it's a very good thing.

I guess this BD only applies to me if I were to get S.C. But I'd rather prefer TSUBASA RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE on this format. Seeing as I have PS3

I predicted there would be more titles, and there are. Check out the updated news article.

Sucks that Spice and Wolf is delayed by a month, but then again, it's a relief because Noveraber was going to be a heavy month for me anyway.

Now that it has a complete set, how is Baccano? If it helps, I do like crime dramas, and I do like the Roaring '20s.

I saw four episodes of Baccano at Katsucon. It's good. One of Funi's better dubs this year, and it bounces around between several different characters & plot arcs that intersect and will eventually tie together as near as I can tell. The one sturabling block may be the violence in one story that was referenced in a TZ review not too far back, but one's mileage probably varies on that one. I haven't gotten that far, so I don't have anything substantial to say about that.

There are many episodes on the legal stream now, so you can give it a fair chance. Its structure is unusual so it's not necessarily for everyone, but I like the way that the narrative works.

OHH! Complete Baccano! Deffiantly gonna snatch that up! (you know there really arn't many Noir series around nowadays, Thats one reason i love baccano so!) and the whole rollar-coaster style story-telling.

Also Going to be picking up Case Closed Movies 3 & 4 of course!

But hey, wheres Soul Eater! I thought it was supposed to come out this year! Oh well hopefully it'll be out by January of 2010.

I've been holding off on Baccano since I knew it would be released in a complete collection before long, and I was right. I'll probably pick that up at some point. And of course I've had One Piece Season Two Fourth Voyage preordered since it was announced for a Noveraber release, so that will just ship a month or so later.

I never finished watching Samurai Champloo but I liked it enough that I'll pick up that Blu-Ray release.

Is this just a re-release of the DVD version but upscaled or an entirely new set?

It could be either. Upscale seems more likely since it was made in 2004 though a few HD series were made then so it's possible it was done in HD. We'll probably have to wait until it's released to find out. Even it is an upscale, it will still benefit from lossless audio and a higher bitrate encoding so it should still look better than the dvRAB, there just won't be a huge difference.

In Case Closed Movie 3,
Ai makes her first movie appearance, despite the fact that we haven't seen her in a dub episode yet.

Then you'll like it! I watched the whole thing on Comcast's On-Demand. Lots of mafia and mayhem, and sticks to its early 30's setting quite well. I think it's a case of the dub being better than the original, because it just doesn't make sense for 1930's New York gangsters to be speaking modern Japanese.

The first few episodes are very confusing, but by the end you understand everything. It's very different than most anime, because it's a few events being viewed by multiple characters, out of order chronologically, each character's point of view adRAB to the story. There's no main character.

Also, though quite a few dark and violent things happen, it's not depressing at all. It manages to stay upbeat (but without being corny).

I was waiting for the boxset, and I'll definitely be buying it!

Someone should remind you that the third season is just 24 mock summaries of non-existent episodes plus 2 OARAB serving as the final two episodes of the said mostly non-existent season included as bonuses with a couple of volumes of manga.

The fact that they were pack-in bonuses with books actually makes licensing them a whole lot trickier.
