This is the talkback thread for FUNimation Announces New April Titles Including "Kanon" Collection.

That didn't take long for some of their Geneon acquisitions, announced in late Deceraber, to get collections.

Finally, a Vandread box set at a decent price. And knowing it's a FUNimation release, it'll be easier to find in stores as well.

Thank you once again, FUNimation. No way am I paying $100 for a 26-episode set when Tenchi Universe was HALF THE PRICE.

Hm...

So whats with the Beck re-release? Is it just the same thing as the complete collection but cheaper?

Vandread ftw, I cant wait to get it at an affordable price.

I'll probably give Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage's set a purchase, if I have the money. I really hope ro find out if it can keep up with the fast-paced action and thrills of the first season, which was a great blind buy.

Tenchi... is that OVA 3? I get so lost when it comes to these (you figure I should know more about one of my favorite series...)

Nice, especially on the Geneon titles and them being not-so-ridiculous in price.

Thankfully (or not, I'm not sure), I already have Kanon when it was released by ADV, so... too bad for that.

Not really. Just for starters, Geneon and ADV went down back when the volume-by-volume DVD model was still the norm in the industry. If you're referring to a niche like Kanon, well, they've pulled off doing well with shows that aren't mainstream back when Geneon and ADV were around as well.

Still, FUNi usually releases new stuff alongside their re-releases. There's nothing of the sort this time. Oh well, seeing as how this IS FUNi we're talking about, I'm not worried. May should have some new material.

I was referring to Geneon's outrageous pricing of their Vandread box set two years ago when Tenchi Universe was only half the cost.

I don't really know if FUNimation has all of Tenchi or not, and they haven't said anything about that.

It's a Viridian release, which means thin paper sleeves for the set, for cheaper.

Where's everyone's capitalistic spirit? I thought we're supposed to be stimulating the economy. :3

Looks like April will be fun for me, with Gankoutsuou, Black Lagoon and Beck. I refused to pay the outlandish Geneon price for Gankoutsuou's set.

I can only say one thing about this...
KANON BOXSET, YAY!!! I'll totally be picking that up. Oh, sure, the price might be so high that it'll definitely incur upon me the wrath of Custom Taxes, but the series is so utterly amazing that I don't care. Though I'll be waiting until we're a little closer to the release-date, just in case there's a FUNi-sale on RightStuf or something.

Yep. Pioneer didn't bother differentiating between OVA 1, Night Before Carnival and OVA 2, which is why they just called the whole thing Tenchi Muyo! and nurabered it as episodes 1-13. Since FUNimation couldn't use Tenchi Muyo! as a title, they went with Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki for the OVA 3 and OVA 3 +1 releases.

My understanding is that the license rescues were all fast-tracked since they had the least amount of work to do to bring them to market.

FUNimation does not have the earlier OVA's at this time. There's two schools of thought on whether they'd get them or not. At this point, I'm leaning to the school that says that FUNimation may get a distro-only license for the canon and non-canon stuff. That would disappoint me for the canon materials, because even though Geneon cleaned up the subs somewhat, they really need retranslating from scratch. I'd rather FUNimation perform a pure license rescue so they could fix the subs.

It's got nothing to do with how much I'm actually getting for the price. It's just that I don't live in America, and importing ANYTHING that costs more than 29$ means that I have to pay customs (another $29, plus $10 for international shipping) and all that stuff, and it's just generally a huge pain.
But like I said, I'm still going to buy it, I just don't like the fact that I'll probably have to pay over $100 for it.
