Toon Zone Talkback - Fox Developing Animated Comedy from Jonah Hill

Or another Seth for that matter.

I like Jonah Hill, I think he can be hillarious. Will that translate well to a prime time cartoon? Maybe...

But the better question is... this and Seth Green's show have to air somewhere but there's only so much space on Sunday (so much GOOD space). If we assume American Dad gets the boot (and I don't know if that really ought to be assumed) then you still have potentially one of these new FOX shows getting a 7 hour slot from the get go... That'd be a real shame.

Or perhaps they're going to expand Animation Domination programing to another night as well.

FOX will probably treat this series lie a red-headed stepchild since it's not about a family. FOX doesn't have an impressive track record with non-domestic animated sitcoms.

A socialite kid going to a public school doesn't sound like much of a premise, to be honest, but still, it's nice to hear that FOX is green lighting an animated series that doesn't have Seth MacFarlane's name attached to it.

Just because we're hearing about animated shows in development doesn't mean they're all happening. A year or so ago, word came of a bunch of new animated Fox shows, including something about a rock star whose tattoos talked to him or something. The only one that saw the light of day was "Sit Down, Shut Up," which must have meant it was the best of the bunch. Finding talent isn't easy.

Well, Fox will probably employ the strategy they're using his midseason.

Move American Dad to 7:30, then air the new series at 8:30 (since the Cleveland Show is moving to 9:30 this midseason). If the new series outperforms what American Dad was doing, go with the new show and axe AD. If it doesn't, burn off the rest of the new series' episodes at 7:30 and move American Dad to 8:30, keeping it instead.

That's what they're doing with Sons of Tucson this midseason and they kind of did the same thing with Sit Down Shut Up and King of the Hill last season, but since the Cleveland Show was waiting in the wings they didn't keep King of the Hill either.

American Dad hits the 100-episode syndication watermark at the end of this season and it's the lowest-rated on Animation Domination now, so it will be the one moved around for experimentation, and I think its fate kind of hinges on if Fox finds a new, higher-rated series in its place.

Another option is that since their Friday night is tanking so horribly right now, they could try airing two animated sitcoms there for the first or second hour. The problem is, that Friday night is so bad that it's just about as tough as the 7:00 hour on Sunday nights, and the shows probably wouldn't be cheap enough to justify putting on Friday.

But since both this Jonah Hill and the Seth Green series are so early in development, it might be jumping the gun to say they'll both make it to TV, they've both still got a ways to go.

Wasn't there also a planned animated show about a dentist and his dysfunctional family? And there was also talk of making an animated version of The Pitts.

I agree: just because a new Fox animated show is announced in the planning doesn't mean that it'll ever actually get made. And this premise honestly doesn't sound like much, Jonah Hill or no Jonah Hill.

Back in 2007, there was also a series called Mothballs that took place in a retirement home. It was ordered scripts with penalty attached if it wasn't picked up.

It was created by Dave Jeser & Matt Silverstein who were fresh off of Drawn Together. Pretty sure that series is long dead. It was being talked about back when the animeted Pitts was in development.

To be fair, Sit Down Shut Up was a ratings flop due to poor marketing and the fact FOX shifted its timeslot every week. Only letting a series air 4 episodes in different time slots every week doesn't really show FOX cared about the series at all.

If you haven't been watching the new episodes on Saturday nights, I highly suggest you do, the series has improved greatly. It's a shame it was written off after such a lackluster pilot.

I don't think people were just bashing the show based on the pilot. I saw all of the episodes that Fox aired last Spring and didn't think any of them were very funny. I'm also not sure where you're getting that Fox didn't advertise the show. I saw plenty of ads for it. The only reason the show moved timeslots was because of how bad the ratings were. I haven't seen any of the new episodes on Saturday, as I don't particularly see the point in catching up with a show that I never liked in the first place that's already canceled. Maybe if I happen to be watching TV when it comes on. When does it come on, anyway? 11:00 pm?

I live in the Midwest so it's 11PM over here, East Coast 12 AM. I believe the rest of the new episodes will be airing after the new Wanda Sykes Show Fox has
