Toon Zone Talkback - E3 2010: Avi Arad Developing New "Pac-Man" TV Show

Maybe they took a cue from DC Comics and pretended that Superboy (Superman-as-a-boy) never existed (or is only the modern clone version), instead going with "Pac-Boy" a la the use of "young Superman" or "teenaged Superman" in the "Legion of Super-Heroes" cartoon? :-p

(Yeah, I know there's thhat trademark/copyright lawsuit between DC and Siegel and Shuster's estates to blame for the Legion cartoon using the name "young Superman"...)

-B.

Well, that's an....interesting take on the Pac-Man mythos. Looks like it could be fun, though. I'll give any video game-related toon a shot.

Yikes, I feel like I just opened the ark of the covenant.

My God this Avi Arad . . . seriously that Avi Arad. I wonder about him sometimes.

Isn't Avi Arad the main one responsible for AVENGERS: UNITED THEY STAND and SPIDER-MAN: UNLIMITED?

I believe so VileOne. I believe so.

Agreed. Especially that voice for Pac-Man. Heck, even I could do better.

It should also be of note that I saw OLM's name in the credits for that trailer (OLM Digtal, but still).

Yes. Especially since there was five ghosts plus that annoying Pac-Baby.

This feels more like a parody on a sketch comedy than an actual cartoon, especially the horrific attempts at humor.

Saying that the new show looks bad doesn't imply that the older Pac-Man show was Shakespeare or even all that great.

Looks pretty lame. Pac Man's voice is awful. And the plot of the show just doesn't look very good, although I don't know what I was expecting. After all, this is Pac Man TAS, I mean come on...

Exactly. No, this doesn't look in any way deep or intricate, but hey, it's Pac-Man. A series based on a video game about a little yellow ball man who runs around a maze dodging predatory technicolor ghosts and bests them by eating big white pellets. I wasn't expecting something along the lines of I, Claudius.

Can't say I like the Pac-Man redesign but then again, when was the last time Pacman relevant? Not in my lifetime, while I did like his 3D retro look this re-design meant to appeal to younger kids may just work for the best for Pacman, its not like the people who remember Pacman would care for a more mature Pacman look either.

The show itself looks pretty decent, you guys have to remember you are all adults posting on a forum about cartoons, I think as a kid I may have enjoyed it, I mean its not like the Pacman has any sort of mythos whatsoever it needs to follow, so they don't have much to work with besides the hero and ghosts. The storylines they've tried for recent games are just as silly.
