Toon Zone Talkback - Al Jean: No Plans for "Simpsons Movie 2"

I'd much rather they continue making movies while canceling the TV show. Each episode doesn't have that many good jokes. Combine all the good ones from a season or two and voila! Instant movie outline.

Well that's good for them. If this was like Japan, they'd be making a movie every year until they made a box office failure. Which would also lead to movies of inconsistent enjoyment.

This isn't surprising at all. With how much work it took to make the FIRST Simpsons movie (which pretty much took a decade), it's no shocker that Jean would be hesitant to start production on ANOTHER one of those right away.

Exactly. Look how late in the shows' histroy it took for ONE Simpsons movie to be made. The 1st Simpsons isn't even out on DVD yet. The paint on The Simpsons Movie isn't even dry yet and people are already begging FOX for a sequel? You can't "grind out" quality, you know. Well you can, but it would be a disaster, artistically and financially. Besides, do you really think that The Simpsons will stay on the air for another 17+ years to survive a 2nd movie? The smart thing for 20th Century Fox to do would be to have the 2nd Simpsons movie serve as the series finale (which is what I think the 1st movie should have been). Instead of pining away for a 2nd Simpsons movie, you should be thankful that you even got one.
