Too tall for a 1098

First post, Greetings to all,
I have been viewing this site for a couple of weeks now and it has really stoked the desire to throw a leg over an adreniline asist machine again. It's been a while, nearly ten years, although I like to believe that I was a very capable rider running the twisty backroads of North Carolina for around 100K of seat time on an FZR1000. I'm sure the rust will need to be shed but I don't really see it being a problem. The closest Ducati dealership will not allow a test run on their bikes which I kind of understand, but to throw down this kind of money without really knowing if the 1098's ergonomics will fit is a concern. Kind of a big guy 6'3" 230lbs. Any big guys out there with some advice.

Yep.. Buy it and ride.... Second word... Buy the S as that model has the heavier set up Ohlins suspension. Not quite the plug & play as you would hope... have a really good suspension guru set it up and it will make all the diff in the world...

Don't consider the seat height as a purchase decision. (at 6'3" you can flat foot anything!) The seat height will vary later, commensurate with the suspension ride height setup.

So go to the dealer that won't let you ride the thing. Just sit on it for a while to see how the ergos fit you. See if they can put it on a rear stand so you can get both feet on the pegs while you sit there and make motor noises.

Higher bars are available and at your height you might want to consider some rear set pegs.

As RC51 said, have a respected setup guy dial the ride in for you. You might want or need a stiffer shock spring, fork springs etc.

If the ergos fit you and you can't resist the allure, buy it! Ride it a week or two to get the feel of it then hit the suspension guy up.

Slower than you,
doubt that.
Thanks for the input. I have sat on it and believe that my inner child is going to make the decision for me. Some kids just never grow up. Red or Black?

Well, the Loyalistas will say there is no other color on the chart for a Ducati except RED.... I made mine Black, so I might be a bit biased in my opinion.. Btw.. Rear ride height & spring will be about right for your weight, just needs to be dialed in.. Front spring will be slightly light, but not so bad as you need to run out right away and re-spring it.. I am 6'4 an 205lbs. And when I got my 1098 it was brutal. My wrists and ass would kill me after 10 mins. I bought a set of helibars and it was a huge difference. Like I felt I could ride the bike forever after I installed them. So then I went on a comfort mod hunt. So I got a sargent seat wich is way better then the stock, I would keep your factory seat tho if your planning any track days just because the sargent is hard to move around on. And then I put some sato rearsets on. And now the bike feels awesome. Like really awesome. U am a bit to tall to tick behind the windshiels woth a beans tho. I bought a puig double bubble windshield for it just for the added height. And the guys are right once you get the suspension set up you won't care if the bike kills you at the end of the day, it feels great. And with all those comfort mods I can ride all day with out getting a sore anything. You won't be disappointed man, and half the fun is modding the bike to make it more you any ways.

Do the rear sets allow more room for a size 14 foot? Is their a particular sato rearset or is it the only one offered for the 1098 by that company?
