tomb raider reboot on the game?

okay so first off, i looove tomb raider, i have and played all tomb raider games.. so i recently found out there was going to be a tomb raider reborn coming up next year (2011) and they said it is going to be a reboot.. i was wondering what is a reboot? and whats the point of it for the game if anyone can explain that also to me. thank you
