Today (May 8) is the 10th anniversary of the "New" Woody Woodpecker Show...

As I said in another forum, it was slightly better than the Woody cartoons (or really, ANY Lantz cartoons) that Paul J. Smith directed. But then, I can name tons of cartoons that were better than those, some of which are contemporary.

It had potential, and Billy West didn't do a bad job, but really, it wasn't anything special.

The only thing I remembered from the oldest Woody Woodpecker series was Woody's trade laugh was 3 short, 1 long. When I saw the newer one from ten years ago, they made the laugh 2 short, 1 long. It's not really a big deal, but it still bothers me.

I liked the Winnie Woodpecker cartoons.

When will Universal ever release a volume or two of the 1999 Woody Woodpecker show on DVD?

I'm glad they used the 40's design of Woody for this show, though the early 50's Woody would've also worked. Late 1955-1972 Woody was ugly, IMO. It was also nice of them to give Winnie a bigger role in the series rather than as a one-shot character from the theatrical shorts.

Speaking of Woody Woodpecker DVDs, I wonder why they haven't released volume three of the theatrical shorts sets.

Woody Woodpecker DVD set Volume 3 hasn't gotten a green light yet. How many Woody Woodpecker and Friends DVD series was Universal planning on releasing?

You sure it was in 1999? That doesn't sound right. I really thought that it was the fall of 2001. Cause I seem to associate it in my mind with the Transformers:Robots In Disguise cartoon that aired from 2001-2002.

Yes, this show did first air in 1999, as I remember seeing a Fox Kids ad advertising it, along with Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy and Godzilla: The Animated Series, in a 1999 issue of Nickelodeon Magazine. The show also aired re-runs on Fox Kids in 2001-2002.

Anyway, I remember seeing this show, when it aired on Fox Kids, and enjoying it. Like others have said, it would be cool to see this series released on DVD, hopefully in season sets.

I need to remind myself to get the DVDs of the original woody woodpecker shorts when I get the chance. But getting back to subject I rembember watching this show, the only episode I could remember is woody pretending to be sick so he could see a hot nurse. lol

It was one of the few Fox Kids shows that bored me so much, I would walk away until it ended or change the channel to YTV (I didn't have the WB at the time).

Seen the show on YTV. Was pretty okay. Billy West did a fine job as Woody and even got the laugh perfected. However, I didn't care for Knothead and Splinter and Buzz Buzzard's character was severely toned down compared to what we've seen of him in the old Lantz shorts.

And I didn't understand the point to the frequent Don Knotts references.
